Here is a rough schedule of events that AJET typically holds annually.
This schedule is subject to change depending on the year, but hopefully it can give you a good outline of when to expect certain events to happen.
Recurring events vary, and can range from sports practice, movies, crafting, book clubs, game nights, day trips, and more. We are always interested in hearing new ideas for regular events, please contact us if you have any suggestions or feedback!

Our recreation team does a great job putting on a wide variety of events that anyone can enjoy. Some of these are monthly recurring events, while others occur more sparingly, but all of them are open to you!
Tokushima Tales
Tokushima Tales is a book club where members vote on a book to read together. There are online and in-person meetups to discuss thoughts on each section read, usually concluding with a final themed meeting based on the book!
Most online meetings are conducted in Discord via voice channels.

Sudachi Sports
Sudachi Sports is typically held every week, usually on Fridays or Mondays depending on gym availability. We rent a space at Kuramoto Park for several hours and host casual sports practice from 7-9 PM. Usually we play volleyball at these practices. Other suggestions for sports like basketball, badminton, or other team sports are welcome!
Sudachi Sports is a casual, non-competitive, friendly affair. There should be no discrimination or judgment based on talent or skill. Even if you have never touched a volleyball in your life, or think you’ll trip over your feet trying to play rugby, we encourage you to give it a try. Everyone, including non-JET friends or community members, are welcome to enjoy Sudachi Sports as long as you follow our one rule—have fun! For more information join the LINE sports chat!
Hobby Huddle
Ever wanted to learn a new skill? Each month, you have the opportunity to attend Hobby Huddle and discover what could be your newest hobby, taught to you by a fellow JET. Past Hobby Huddle activities have included rock climbing, crochet, bracelet making, creative writing, baking, and so much more. If you have a skill you’d like to share with your peers, let us know—you could become our next teacher! If you’d like to host or join, reach out to Tarina or join the hobby huddle LINE chat!
Movie Night
Need moral support to get through a horror movie? Want to cringe at a romcom with your friends? Or are you in the mood for a Studio Ghibli marathon? Whatever movies you like, you should consider joining us for Movie Night each month! Interested parties can vote on the movie for each month and enjoy snacks, movies, and conversation at a willing volunteer’s apartment.

Day Trips
Is there a place in or around Tokushima you’ve always wanted to visit, but never got around to? You might have the chance to go there with other JETs on a day trip. These events can take you anywhere from deep in the Iya Valley to the shrine next door to your house—but we’ll get to go there together!
